In today’s era of technological advancement, there has been a rapid rise on software design development. Thus, database development has become a major feature when it comes to the maintenance and development of software.

What is Database Management system?

In a layman’s language, database management system, abbreviated as BDMS, consists of a set of programs whose main function is to create and maintain a data in an operating system. Moreover, it allows easy storage and retrieval of information from the database by users. Data base management system is classified into four; Network model, Relational model, Object Oriented data model and Hierarchal model. Network model presents data a record type. In Relational model, data stored includes a collection of tables that appear like a data file. In Object Oriented model, data is represented in terms of their operations, properties and objects. Lastly, the Hierarchal data model contains a hierarchal tree-like structure representing the records stored in the database. The key advantages of DBMS include; ability to control the redundancy data, modification or deleting of data and restriction of unauthorized access to enter the database.

Current Trends in Database Management

The various trends in Database management have been highlighted here in a nutshell:

Automated Management: Database automation is a trend that has emerged in the field of technology. The technique seeks to simplify such activities like patching, provisioning, maintenance,, upgrades and flow of a given project.

Increased focus in security: The recent security breaches have necessitated database administrators to work closely with IT security partners to ensure there is safety in various enterprises.

Database that SQL and NoSQL: Versatility is regarded as the latest trend in database. In today’s technologically advanced world, products are adopting various databases through bridging of both SQL and NoSQL so as to give user the best capabilities from the two.

Database in the Cloud: There is an increased push of enterprises by database developers towards the cloud. This involves training enterprise database administrators ton how to coordinate cloud services to ensure they effective work with the existing applications and infrastructure.

Application and Uses of Database Management System
The evolution of Database base management system has enabled companies to get more from their work due to their ability to store records of their operations. Data applications are being used widely in various industries such as; the banking industry, aviation industry, educational institutions, telecommunication and among other sectors of the economy. In the banking sector, bankers use different data application to access customer details, issue loans, online transaction and for other banking transactions. Likewise, in the aviation industry, airlines are using data applications to reserve and schedule passenger flights. Educational institutions are also using data applications for course details, student information and financial transactions.

Database Management System Maintenance
Database system development entails a labor intensive process and requires huge costs and a variety of concepts .Therefore, it is important to maintain your database system but such maintenance should be strategic and smart. However, during maintenance of your database, ensure the operations of your enterprise are not interrupted as this may make some customers to be intolerant if there are long delays.
